The brand new ABTT ‘Award for Environmental Sustainability’ will be presented to someone who over the past 12 months has made a significant contribution to furthering environmental sustainability within the theatre industry.

The award will sit alongside the established ABTT ‘Technician of the Year Award’ and ABTT ‘Award for Emerging Excellence’ which recognise the achievements of individuals both starting out and well-established in their backstage careers.

The ABTT Awards are one of the Association’s flagship events which this year will take place on Wednesday 7th June at 6pm at the stunning Alexandra Palace and the ABTT would like to extend an invitation to those in the industry to attend the Awards ceremony and Theatre Show social which will take place following the first day of the ABTT Theatre Show.

The ABTT Awards to take a moment to acknowledge those people making a difference to our Industry and this year and the ABTT are excited to be celebrating even more amazing people in the industry with the introduction of their newest award.

The ABTT ‘Award for Environmental Sustainability’ was founded following the ABTT’s push in recent years towards reducing their carbon impact and pursue a greener and more environmentally friendly industry.

ABTT Event Manager, Elysia Moore said:
“the ABTT are proud to introduce an award to recognise those who have made a significant contribution to furthering environmental sustainability within the theatre industry. Those contributing towards the creation of sustainable live performance productions; the sustainable development or management of a performance venue; or the sustainable operation of a theatrical company or organisation should be celebrated, and their achievements acknowledged and appreciated as it is their talent that helps drive our industry forward for the future.’

The ABTT Council agreed that celebrating those pursuing better sustainable practice within our Industry needed to be “commended and their work and commitment to progressing the industry praised!”

The ABTT invite people to begin sending in nominations for the annual ABTT People Awards. Nominations should be sent to admin@abtt.org.uk before 26th May 2023.
