The ABTT Awards are one of the Association’s flagship events and we are very pleased to be able to take the opportunity to acknowledge those people and products making a difference to our Industry! The Association of British Theatre Technicians annual Theatre Awards take place in June every year at the annual ABTT Theatre Show. An experienced jury of working practitioners and industry peers consider entries for the ABTT Awards.
Product Awards:
These Awards originally started in 1976, progressing from the initial “product of the year” to now nominate products in a variety of categories including, “Engineering”, “Sound”, ” Lighting”, “Widget” and “Stand of the Year”. Product Awards are open to any company or individual whose products are substantially new to the market during the last twelve months and are available now for purchase, immediate delivery and use. To be considered, all entries must be available for adjudication during the first day of the ABTT Theatre Show on Wednesday 22nd June 2022 at London’s Alexandra Palace, either on their exhibition stand (if being exhibited) or hosted by one of the pre-registered exhibitors. Supporting information may be submitted via email office@abtt.org.uk for consideration by the jury members prior to the Show.
People Awards:
The Awards also celebrate the amazing individuals in our Industry making a difference too. This includes, “Technician of the Year”, “Emerging Excellence” and the “Spanner Award” in honour of the late Philip Windsor.
These Awards are open to ABTT members and non-members alike, and celebrate those who are both well established in the Industry alongside those just starting out! If you know someone who’s achievements need to be recognised please do send nomination to the ABTT office at office@abtt.org.uk. Please include your contact details, the name and contact details of your nominee and why you think the nominee would merit the award.
The Virtual Ideas Platform is open to anyone and everyone with an idea.
We know when backstage people are faced with a technical challenge, they get inventive and creative, cook up ideas and find solutions. The Platform is here to recognise, salute and honour those innovators in our midst.
By its very nature, it is a dynamic working environment in which to invent and develop new and better ways of doing things – in special effects; costume and wardrobe, wigs, make-up and hair, scenery, stage, sound, lighting, automation, audio-visual and any other discipline adopted to make live performance. The Platform aims to connect your great ideas with practitioners, developers, designers and manufacturers who are keen to work with you to realise the potential of your idea and collaborate with you to take it on a journey to a wider audience.
