Becoming a Full Member of the ABTT has shown potential employers that I am committed to the Industry and keeping my skills and knowledge up to date.
The ABTT is for all who are interested in the design of places of entertainment, in their operation and in the production of performance.
However, although anyone with an interest may become an associate of the ABTT, the responsibility for the Association’s governance is borne by those who are deemed competent practitioners.
The Full Members of the ABTT are previous Associate Members who have been recognised by their peers as being suitably experienced within the industry to participate in the governance of the Association.
Our Full Members will have applied by submitting their CV and 2 references. To be admitted as a Full Member of the Association, you must first be an Associate Member. You are being recognised by your peers as a competent practitioner and this makes you eligible as a member of the Electoral College to stand for office and participate in any ballots.
As a Full Member of the ABTT you will be helping us to be relevant to all the regions and nations of the United Kingdom, those whose participation is waged and unwaged, the small and the large, those with buildings and those without; everyone no matter where or how they pursue their interest.
To be a Full Member is to be at the heart of theatre design, technology, operation and production, by being at the heart of the only independent membership organisation setting and upholding standards in technical excellence, safety and compliance for theatre and live performance in the UK.
However, although anyone with an interest may become an associate of the ABTT, the responsibility for the Association’s governance is borne by those who are deemed competent practitioners (our Full Members).
As a Full Member of the ABTT you are eligible to nominate or to be nominated to serve as a Trustee-Director on our Council.You are also admitted as one of our Electoral College. Without our Electoral College, which is made up of practitioners from throughout the industry, the ABTT would struggle to produce the Code of Practice of the Theatre Industry.
There is no difference in the membership cost between Associate Members and Full Member. However, to become a Full Member of the ABTT it is required for you to demonstrate to the Council of Trustee-Directors that you have relevant experience and a manifest commitment to the technical aspects of the art of theatre.

– We will then contact your references to corroborate your experience is suitable.
– We will put your application forward at our next council meeting.
– We will then be in contact to let you know the outcome.
