Alex is an elected Trustee-Director and board member of the Association of British Theatre Technicians. He has recently been the Senior Lighting Tutor at Mountview, training the next generations of technicians. Prior to this he has worked both nationally and internationally in venues and touring. He was also a Technical Project Manager - Theatre - for Stage Electrics looking after their long term theatre productions both in the West End and internationally.
Alex trained at East 15, specialising in Lighting and Sound. He has a broad range of experience working on Cruise Ships, touring the UK with productions, being part of the team lighting the London Eye for the annual ‘Marking Midnight’ celebrations at New Years Eve and being Lighting Designer for numerous productions and events. He has worked in various educational settings and been involved in refurbishment projects and multiple venues. During his career he has kept close links with industry bodies including the ABTT and the STSG enabling him to bring a broad range of skills and experience to the ABTT. Currently Alex is employed as a Client Relations Manager for a hire company supplying temporary power distribution.
Alexander CannI ran for council as I wished to assist the Association in developing how it supports and guides technicians and theatre staff. We are entering a phase in which the way we work in theatre is changing and the role of the ABTT to support it’s members in this change is something I feel I can assist in.
