About Stephen Joseph
Stephen Joseph – ‘SJ’ was arguably one of the most influential and provocative of British theatre practitioners of the last 100 years. Known for taking theatre beyond the confines of the proscenium arch and touring the first professional theatre in the round in the UK, Joseph encouraged a new generation of writers and theatre professionals. He was one of the founders of the ABTT and Society of Theatre Consultants and a prolific author of seminal works on the theatre. Theatre director and producer; University lecturer and tutor, his far-ranging interests and views on new theatre forms inspired those who knew and worked with him.
