SOLT and UK Theatre have launched the Theatre Artists Fund
5 July 2020
SOLT and UK Theatre have launched the Theatre Artists Fund, a new fund established with a £500k donation from Netflix, to provide small grants of £1000 for theatre workers who find themselves with nowhere else to turn. It is designed to specifically support those who have been ineligible for Government aid and have not been able to work since theatres closed on 16th March due to Covid-19.
The first round of applications will open from 12noon today Monday 6 July and remain open until 12noon on Monday 13 July.
Once the initial funds have been allocated the ambition is for the fund to continue to grow with the support of industry figures, corporations, charitable trusts and individual theatre goers alike, as more help will be desperately needed by those out of work over coming months. You can find out how to donate here.
SOLT and UK Theatre have expressed their enormous gratitude to director Sam Mendes who has spearheaded the fund which will provide short-term relief to hundreds of theatre workers and freelancers across the UK, and particularly those from underrepresented groups disproportionately affected by the crisis.
You can read the press release here and please pass the details of the fund to your networks and support if you can using the hashtag #TheatreArtistsFund.
