SOLT & UK Theatre need your help to understand the impact of rising NICs

26 November 2024

SOLT & UK Theatre are launching a survey to understand the impact of rising employer NICs, National Living Wage and Business Rates announced in the Autumn Budget on the theatre ecosystem.

Anecdotally, we are hearing from members that the tax changes announced in the Autumn Budget are potentially extremely challenging. SOLT & UK Theatres are launching this survey to understand the impact of these rises on the theatre industry. The data provided will be completely confidentially, to demonstrate the impact of the rises to Government and to help prepare for upcoming union negotiations and advocate on your behalf. We can’t do this without your data.

We do not expect the Government to reverse its decision on NIC rises, but instead want to use this insight to make the case for other interventions to create the conditions for theatre to thrive. You can read more about their advocacy work on their websites.

Please fill in this short survey which details your expectations for the upcoming financial year. At this stage, we’re only looking for ballpark figures to illustrate the financial challenges you are likely to face, but the more detail and information you can give, the more robust and detailed information we can pass to Government.

Deadline: Thursday 12th December 2024
Best contact to complete: Executive director/Finance Director
Approx. Completion Time: 10 mins once you have gathered the data.

We know that we have only given a short time period for you to respond to this survey, but we would want to be able to have data available to share with officials by Christmas. Any questions, please reach out to Becky at Rebecca.gregg@soltukt.co.uk

If you work in a National Portfolio Organisation, you may recognise some of the questions from a survey you have already completed for Arts Council England. This is to save duplication of work, but we need you to provide the information to us directly as they cannot share individual organisations’ responses with us. We also ask in more detail about your plans to cover these increased costs.

If you or your colleagues have any concerns or questions about the implications of these tax changes, please do get in touch with us. You can reach us at publicaffairs@soltukt.co.uk.
