Update following Prime Minister’s announcements
22 September 2020
We expect much more clarity over the coming days but there is one key aspect of today’s announcements that affects our sector on which we want to make sure there is clarity.
From Thursday 23 September businesses selling food or drinks (including cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants), social clubs, casinos, bowling alleys, amusement arcades (and other indoor leisure centres or facilities), funfairs, theme parks, and adventure parks and activities, and bingo halls will be mandated to close from 10pm. Our current understanding is that the guidance will make it clear that cinemas, theatres and concert halls can continue beyond 10pm but only if the performance started before 10pm and alcohol cannot be served after 10pm.
We await clarification on the announcement of table seating only in bars and restaurants, and how / whether that applies to venues.
