Some members will be aware that the guidance in regard to the Seating Capacity was recently updated – part of this update was incorrect. DCMS has investigated and it transpires that the language had been uploaded in error without the necessary clearance from key government departments. Once the error was uncovered the DMCS team worked quickly to rectify the error, agreeing new language with PHE, Cabinet Office and No 10 that they were content with and in line with current social distancing rules. The new version was uploaded first thing on 21st October. They have sent profound apologies to the industry that incorrect text was on gov.uk, this was a genuine error and amended within less than 24 hours.

However, the new clarity in the guidance that 1m is permissible when face coverings are being worn is progress and provides some clarity for operators and Local Authorities. We do not anticipate any further changes to social distancing in the current climate and with the recent Tier regulations.
